Associate Degree in Network Development

The Sanford Brown Associate of Applied Science in Network Development program is designed to help prepare students to evaluate, deploy and manage computer hardware, software and network components. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and computer-based training opportunities. Specifically, it familiarizes students with the installation and upgrading of hardware and software components.

Sanford Brown's AAS in Network Development’s curriculum features instruction in LAN/WAN training. It includes instruction in network setup, configuration and management using industry standard client/server platforms. Additional topics include troubleshooting, help desk operations, end-user support and evolving technologies. Graduates will be expected to:

  • Understand computer hardware components with depth and experience in their usage, configuration, installation, integration, maintenance, and deployment in secure business settings.
  • Understand computer software components with depth and experience in their usage, configuration, installation, integration, security, maintenance, and deployment in secure business settings.
  • Understand network operating systems and server applications with depth and experience in their usage, configuration, installation, integration, security, maintenance, and deployment for the purpose of sharing network resources in secure business settings.
  • Understand networking equipment and components with depth and experience in their usage, configuration, installation, integration, maintenance, and deployment for the purpose of administrating and facilitating communication between them in secure business settings.
  • Understand organizational structure, culture, policies, needs, requirements, and systems, including the ability to security protect organizational assets by utilizing industry standards and best practices, as well as employing critical, analytical, ethical, and forward thinking.
  • Demonstrate professional and interpersonal skills and attitudes, including the ability to research, evaluate, synthesize, document, and present technical information to nontechnical audiences in meaningful ways, including the ability to champion (and to help strengthen) an organization’s core values and standing in the world community.

Courses in Sanford Brown's AAS in Network Development focus on helping students build the knowledge and skills necessary to seek entry-level employment designing, installing and maintaining networks. Classes are led by instructors, many with real-world working experience in the IT industry.

  • In Microsoft Operating Systems, students are provided with an introduction to the installation, file systems, basic system configuration, user accounts and security of operating systems.
  • In Emerging Network Technologies, topics of study include Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Wireless Network Configuration, Directory Services and Security.
  • In Configuration and Troubleshooting, students examine the hardware found in the microcomputer environment, with an emphasis on configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of microcomputers through hands-on activities.
