Sanford-Brown's BS in Visual Communications with an emphasis in Digital Photography starts with a solid background in visual communication, progresses through basic camera and lighting techniques and explores advanced studio and location shooting situations. Successful graduates will be expected to:

  • Compile and complete portfolio – combining learned skills to produce a portfolio that demonstrates workplace readiness.

Sanford-Brown's BS in Visual Communications with an emphasis in Photography focuses on both the technical and aesthetic values of photography in order to help prepare graduates for entry into a world hungry for images. Courses are led by instructors, many with real-world working experience in the field of photography.

  • In Principles of Light, characteristics of natural and artificial light will be covered through lecture and lab. Natural, tungsten, strobe lighting and the use of light modifiers will be covered.
  • In Portraiture, students will practice lighting, posing and photographing subjects in a variety of environments. They will also cover photo retouching and image enhancement processes to improve quality and consistency.
  • In Fine Art Photography, course content emphasizes the creation and presentation of photographs for exhibition. Thematically diverse subjects and genre are studied, and students evaluate and create a portfolio of exhibition prints.
