Sanford-Brown Institute Students Participate in Health Fairs As Part Of ACICS Centennial “We Serve” Community Service Event

June 6, 2012

White Plains, NY – June 6, 2012 – Students from the Medical Assistant and Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound programs at Sanford-Brown Institute in White Plains, N.Y. recently shared their skills at two local health screening events.

Clients at White Plains Mental Health Center’s Health Fair received blood pressure, height, weight and BMI (Body Mass Index) screenings from local Sanford-Brown students May 21.  Sanford-Brown also hosted a Heart Health Exhibit on May 23 on campus for Stroke Awareness Month. More than 60 people received Blood pressure screenings and information on stroke prevention and risk factors. Sonography students exhibited samples of cardiovascular disease seen on ultrasound images.

The students’ volunteerism was part of the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) Centennial Community Service Week. They joined thousands of the other students, faculty and staff across the country who also participated in WE SERVE (Students Empowered to Respond and Volunteer Everywhere), the agency’s centennial event. In addition to advancing excellence in education across the schools it accredits, ACICS believes in giving back to the communities served by its colleges and schools. As a member of ACICS, Sanford-Brown shares that commitment to serving our community.

“Volunteer service activities like these serve both to give back to our community and to provide our students with real life experience that will benefit them in their future healthcare careers. Our students are active, contributing citizens and community members even before they graduate from Sanford-Brown Institute,” said Jill Underwood, Director of Community and Alumni Outreach, Sanford-Brown Institute - White Plains.
