SBI Tampa Poison Prevention Training with Bonnie McDougle

Sanford Brown Tampa Poison Prevention Training 1On Monday, July 29, 2013, Community Educator Bonnie McDougle of the Florida Poision Information Center at Tampa General Hospital trained 21 Pharmacy Technician students in poison prevention. The training was held in preparation for the school's upcoming Family Wellness Week Community Health Fair on Saturday, August 3rd.

Students will be manning the Poison Help Line's vendor booth as part of the community health fair offerings. Additional community partners participating include: Florida KidCare, Florida Department of Health, Tobacco Free Florida, ReachUp, Westchase Chiropractic, Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay, DAACO, Head Start, Hillsborough County Anti Drug Alliance, and WIC.

Sanford Brown Tampa Poison Prevention Training 2In addition to the participating community partners, SBI Tampa labs will be open, and students, supervised by instructors, will provide free health care screenings (blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, BMI, vision, etc.), seated massages and spa treatments as well as tooth polishing. Pharmacy students will be compounding products such as muscle rubs, lip balms and hand sanitizers and the cardiovascular students will demonstrate the beating of a human heart through ultrasound technology.

Fun activities are also planned, including a visit from the "Tooth Fairy," who will read to children throughout the day, face painting, Zumba and other fitness demonstrations, a variety of giveaways as well as chance drawings for backpacks filled with school supplies.
