When studying fashion design, it's important to continually look for sources of inspiration for your own creations and techniques. Here are four of the best fashion books right now that will help you on your way.

Four of the Best Fashion Books to Feed Your Inspiration'Journey of a Dress'

The wrap dress by Diane von Furstenberg has become one of the most iconic pieces of the past few decades. By 1976, von Furstenberg had sold over a million wrap dresses, was known simply by her initials DVF and had appeared on the cover of Newsweek. The designer tells the story of the timeless dress that started it all for her, which is — unbelievably — celebrating its 40th anniversary in this book. Part art book, part lookbook and private tour, it is a fascinating read for anyone interested in brands, fashion history and design.

'Choupette: The Private Life of a High-Flying Fashion Cat'

Choupette is one of the biggest characters in world fashion, and the pampered cat of Karl Lagerfeld, head of design and creative director at Chanel, has now been immortalized in an eponymous new book. The famed feline, who first came to the world's attention three years ago, is now almost as famous as the designer himself. Highlighted in blogs, news articles and television features, she has appeared in full-color spreads inside high-fashion magazines and even has a Twitter diary. Those interested in the eccentricities of the fashion world will be very interested in this chic book, which includes drawings, poetry and feature photographs taken by Karl Lagerfeld.

'Vivienne Westwood'

What makes this a must-read for any student of fashion? It's real, autobiographical insight into the full body of work of the revolutionary British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood. Readers can study the intricate details of her designs with over 200 illustrations in this hard copy. Seventy-three-year-old Dame Vivienne Westwood was one of the architects of punk and new-wave fashion, and although there have been other books written about her life, this one — co-written by Ian Kelly — is being billed as the official.

'Louis Vuitton Fashion Photography'

Louis Vuitton is one of the most sought-after and famous brands in the world, and now, a new hardcover coffee-table book has been released to celebrate the worldwide fashion house. This is one of the best fashion books of the year, allowing readers to unfold a beautifully produced visual history of the iconic brand, spanning almost 400 pages. Those interested in fashion photography will be particularly inspired by this product, featuring work by icons Patrick Demarchelier, Helmut Newton and Bruce Weber.

Turn the pages of any of these four titles and to feed your fashion inspiration!
