Hurricane Disaster Training
August 2, 2010
SANFORD-BROWN INSTITUTE – JACKSONVILLE & LOCAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE GROUPS TEAM FOR HURRICANE DISASTER TRAINING; PROVIDE COMMUNITY TIPS
Campus-Wide Events Will Demonstrate Safety Tips; Jacksonville Chief of Emergency Preparedness to Speak
Living on the First Coast, Mother Nature frequently presents us with disasters, including the threat of hurricanes and tropical storms. Many local residents have grown complacent from the lack of a direct hit by a major hurricane in recent years. They may not be prepared for the heavy damage and potential safety concerns caused by storm surges, flooding and intense winds.
Sanford-Brown Institute wants the Jacksonville community to be prepared in the case of a natural disaster. This Saturday, as part of Sanford-Brown Institute’s ongoing commitment to providing healthcare services to community members in need, the school will be hit by a mock hurricane. The disaster exercise will include representatives from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, Jacksonville Natural Disaster Unit and the Red Cross of Northeast Florida.
This event will show many different skills which will be instrumental in saving lives in the community if a natural disaster occurs. There will be critical hurricane preparedness tips from the various city organizations and first aid items. The public will experience firsthand the devastating aftermath of a hurricane and how Jacksonville’s medical personnel will respond, through a full costumed, indoor/outdoor disaster experience.
Sign-ups will be open for a limited number of free registrations for upcoming certified CPR and first aid courses.
