Sanford Brown Tampa National Prescription Drug Take Back Day SBI-Tampa - Will Host Local Events For National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

Sanford-Brown Institute – Tampa will once again join the Drug Enforcement Agency in ending prescription drug abuse and will host local events in collaboration with National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26. In partnership with Sweetbay Supermarkets, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department and Tampa Police Department representatives, Sanford-Brown students and volunteers will collect and safely dispose of expired and unused prescription medications.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for accidental poisoning, drug abuse and environmental pollution. This is the fourth such event Sanford-Brown has been a part of, and the last Take Back event in April collected and disposed more than 1,600 pounds of medication.

Law enforcement representatives will be stationed at three Sweetbay Supermarket locations throughout the area as well as the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI). Local residents are encouraged to bring unused prescription medications for disposal and they will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance, Drug Abuse Comprehensive Coordinating Office and volunteers from Sanford-Brown.
