SB-Tampa Relay For Life Event

May 18, 2013

Sanford Brown Institute, Tampa, FL campus will participate in American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” event on Friday & Saturday, May 17-18, 2013. The event will take place at Freedom High School in New Tampa. “Relay for Life” events are held nationwide and raise awareness and funds for ACS, with the hope of someday finding a cure for cancer. The SBI Tampa teams, which are comprised of staff, faculty, students, and family/friends, are raising awareness and funds through multiple activities both on and off campus.

Planned fundraisers include “Taco Night,” “Southern BBQ Dinner Night,” candy sales, bake sales and other on-campus events. A local pizza restaurant is donating proceeds of their sales to the team as well, and team members are linking their Relay for Life team pages to Facebook and Twitter and e-mailing family and friends to request their support. In addition, students are decorating luminarias, white bags which will be used at the event to line the track and spell out the words “Hope” and “Cure.” Each luminaria represents a person who has fought or is fighting cancer, and donations for each luminaria are $5.00.

To learn more about Relay for Life, dedicate a luminaria to a friend or family member, or to support the efforts of the Sanford-Brown Institute team, please go to www.relayforlife.org and search for the team under “Sanford-Brown Institute Tampa.”
