SB-Tampa Operation Medicine Cabinet Event

April 27, 2013

Sanford Brown Tampa Operation Medicine CabinetOn Saturday April 27th, faculty and students from the Pharmacy Technician Program at Sanford-Brown Institute Tampa campus will once again partner with the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance (HCADA), Tampa Police Department, DEA and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office to collect unused and expired medications during “Operation Medicine Cabinet.” The event is held several times per year, and this will be the third time SBI students have assisted with the event.

There will be three collection sites across the county, with each site staffed by law enforcement personnel, an SBI instructor and several students in the Pharmacy Technician program.

Students will have the opportunity to meet and talk with citizens who drop off expired medications and will help to distribute literature on various topics, including drug abuse in teenagers and the harmful effects of smoking and chewing tobacco, as well as other related information.

During prior events, students have assisted customers with their anonymous donation of expired and unused medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, estimating the drug classifications represented and collected patient demographic information which assists the HCADA in serving the community.
