Sanford Brown College partnered with the Cleveland Sight Center to Screen Pre-School students in the Cleveland area. The vision screening helps detect conditions leading to common eye problems such as Lazy Eye, Eye Misalignment and Eye Focusing Disorders. This does not replace an eye examination but gives parents a tool to assess whether a full eye examination should be scheduled. The Cleveland Sight Center is recommending all students be checked prior to starting kindergarten.
The Sanford Brown College students had been trained prior to going to the Pre-Schools on how to administer the eye screening. The challenge turned out not to be the screening itself but helping the pre-school students overcome their fear of the eye glasses worn for screening and sitting in the chair attentively while the screening was administered. The SBC students experimented with different ways to relax the students and keep them focused. The pre-school students responded with patience and cooperation. It was a great kick-off for Give Back Week.
