Sanford-Brown College Dearborn Veterinary Technology students participated in the 6th annual Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s Mutt Strut & Pet Expo. Students staffed the Health Zone by assisting in escorting the owners and dogs from the registration desk to the microchipping tent and coordinating all of the activities. In addition, the students were able to see a large number of different types of dogs and practice their breed identification skills as well as seeing a veterinarian and veterinary technician working as a team to plant the microchips.
Despite the overcast and soggy weather hundreds of owners and their pets participated in the various activities which included ; a walk around the surrounding neighborhood, a lure running course, and a dock diving event. According to preliminary numbers, more than $41,700.00 in pledges have been raised to help the rescues cared for by the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
