On Tuesday, May 3rd, Diagnostic Medical Sonography students were invited to SeaWorld to observe the veterinarians as they scan the Beluga Dolphins. Staff and students found it to be very exciting, as the doctor scanned the dolphins and showed them the scans that were generated. The students were very impressed with the expertise of the facility. They learned that dolphins can hear the ultrasound waves and react to it. Sea World veterinarians used the same ultrasound systems that are used in SBC campus labs. Students were also able to scan stingrays, and look for newborn little stingers. Both staff and students came away with a great deal of knowledge. It was a great field trip and enjoyed by all. Thanks again to SeaWorld.
