Sanford-Brown College Tampa - Veterinary Technology program participates in HCVMS (Hillsborough County Veterinary Medical Society) and HAHF (Hillsborough Animal Health Foundation), 3nd annual Healthy Dog Day.
HCVMS/HAHF partnered with Animal Services to provide a rabies vaccine and physical exam vaccine clinic, free to the public. Pets received; physical exams where education and care for pets was discussed, and to those that needed: rabies vaccination, and county license tags. The Program Director, Dr. Smok performed exams and administered rabies vaccines to around 30 dogs, with the aid of 3 VT students from SBC Tampa, Reanna Havenner, Breanna Mazariego, and Ismael Ramos-roman. In total more than 50 volunteers come together to vaccinate around 130 dogs, as well as provide physical exams. Families were counseled on the importance of Responsible Pet Ownership, as well as the need to spay or neuter their dog, further vaccinations, Heartworm/Flea prevention, and general veterinary care. And students gained valuable hands on experience.
