Sanford-Brown Dallas hosted their weeklong Career Services Week in which a wealth of knowledge was provided by professionals in the field, current and former faculty and successful alumni. Ken Evans, director of Career Services, and his accomplished team brainstormed and came up with events that were both informative and provided a lively learning environment. The team wanted to make sure that all learning styles of our students were taken into consideration and they delivered!
Over 150 students, staff, faculty and guests were in attendance at several of the events. The week started with a good spirited but informative fashion show called, “What To and What NOT to Wear to at an Interview” in which students, staff and faculty dressed and participated. Students that were interviewed said that perhaps the most memorable day was “Successful Alumni Working in the Field”. Presentations touched on real-life work situations about being a team player, dealing with different personality types at work and leaving personal style at home. One of their biggest “takeaways” was to create a professional email address and never, never answer your cell phone during an interview.
The event was a success and offered the chance for students to get to know who their career services representative is. Portia Menefee, Career Services Advisor, states, “We want to start developing relationships with our students early on and for them to be aware that Career Services is here through their entire educational process, not just at graduation”.
