SBI Trevose students hosted an outstanding Health Fair Open House on August 31st. We had approximately 100 guests from the community attend the event. Students and instructors from 27 classrooms sponsored health related Service Learning activities that fell in line with their current curriculum.
The students provided blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings, Breast Cancer Awareness in which they raised $355, Happy Heart Mock Clinic, Personality tests, stress relieving strategies, healthy lungs demos, dental whitening demos, proper hand washing techniques, File for Life Registry, carotid and abdomen ultrasounds, colon health, mock interview, legal and ethical questions for the public, developmental disturbances, learning resources, proper brushing and flossing techniques, anger management, diabetes awareness, CPR & choking demos, Tools of the Master Student, skeletal system disorders and much more. Rite Aid Pharmacy provided our students and staff with the opportunity to receive their FLU SHOT for 2011. They were able to administer over 50 flu shots! LA Fitness also attended to provide our students and the community with BMI screenings and talk about how exercise promotes good health.
In addition, we also invited Planned Parenthood, A Women’s Place, Choice One and Survivors of Suicide to attend the event and provide valuable information to the community and our students. The feedback from our guests was extremely positive and they were happy to be a part of such an energized group of people.
