Sanford Brown College participated in 2 Health Center Screenings at the McCafferty VA Health Center in Ohio City and the Scranton Road Ministries Health Fair.
The McCafferty VA Health Center was an active hub of Health Screenings and Educational activities for adults and children. The activities included a van from the Fire Department that simulated a smoked filled house that children could crawl through to feel how they would become disoriented, keep their cool and arrive out the back door intact. Metro Health Centers had a Dental Van focusing on good hygiene for Dental Health. There were over 45 Organizations participating in this event. The day was full of fun, music, lunch and education. Over 20 SBC students (Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding) participated in everything including Registration, Face Painting, Health Screenings and even serving lunch. Kathy Rothenberg-James the Chair of this event from the VA could not praise the students and Chris Laudato, Director of Community Outreach enough. The event was a total success.
The Scranton Road Ministries Health Fair focused on the children. They participated in Rock Wall Climbing, Bouncing Buildings, enjoyed music, in addition to all the Health Screenings available to them. SBC had over 30 students participating in the event. We had Medical Billing and Coding students working on Registration, Medical Assisting students working on the actual health screenings and Advanced Massage Therapy students giving chair massages. The atmosphere at the Church was charged as children and their parents moved from station to station.
