On September 29, 2010, a team of SBI – Tampa instructors and 23 students participated in Moffitt Cancer Center’s "Kick-Off to Good Health" fair. For the first time, SBI students and faculty had the opportunity to participate in providing services to more than 800 of the 4,000 Moffitt employees. Students performed health screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose, weight, height and body mass index and were trained in advance to utilize a Cholestic machine which measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides. Students assisted in setting up for the all-day event in addition to providing screenings.
"The SBI students were very professional and delivered excellent performance in screening Moffitt’s employees," said Maureen Gonzalez, Occupational Health Supervisor at Moffitt Cancer Center. In addition to numerous other compliments from Moffitt staff, several students were encouraged to apply for positions following completion of their program, and as a result of this event, SBI Tampa students will begin externships at Moffitt in mid-October.
SBI-Tampa is honored to have been involved in the health screenings for employees who make Moffitt one of "America’s Best Hospitals" for cancer, as listed in U.S. News & World Report.
