National Crime Prevention Month

October 9, 2010 General 0 Comments

Schools, youth organizations, government institutions and civic groups have utilized the month of October to inform and educate the public while reaching out to new groups for partnership and cooperation and displaying their many accomplishments in crime prevention.

Participants can commit to contributing on one of three levels: family, neighborhood or community-wide.  Some of the main goals of crime prevention month are to bring attention to victimization, volunteerism, and to make communities as a whole, safer places.

The month long observance consists of such highlighted events such as:  Celebrate Safe Communities: October 1-3rd, National School Bus Safety Week: October 18-22nd, National Red Ribbon Week (promoting alcohol, tobacco, and drug related violence awareness): October 24-30th and Make a Difference Day (a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors) on October 24th.

If you want to take a bigger bite out of crime and are considering the criminal justice field, take a look at Sanford-Brown’s Criminal Justice Program here: http://www.sanfordbrown.edu/Areas-Of-Study/Business-Administrative-And-Legal/Criminal-Justice
