On Thursday May, 19, 2011, the Sanford-Brown Institute Iselin, New Jersey campus, held its first off-campus Advisory Board Gala event at the Hilton Hotel in Edison, New Jersey. Our campus president Mr. Dennis Mascali welcomed our visitors, guest speakers, and staff members to the gala which turned out to be a monumental success. Ms. Nicole Lewis from the Arthritis Foundation gave us all excellent insight into the current methodologies being utilized and deployed today in confronting the over one-hundred forms of the disease, and Dr. Peter Staats, a professor at John Hopkins University, gave an excellent dissertation on the current concepts in pain management, focusing on one of the most common problems, injuries related to the spinal cord, in which he provided detailed explanations of both treatment applications and the subsequent procedures involved.

In addition to our wonderful guest speakers, the directors of each program group invited former SBI graduates who are now working in their respective fields of study to sit at their individual conference tables, along with physicians and medical representatives also from the different program fields, who shared many of their professional experiences, concerns, foresights, and observations, as well as making constructive recommendations as to what they would like to see, in terms of proficiencies, in the next generation of graduate students. Our Program Director’s did an excellent job in soliciting important recommendations from our guests, who provided insight as to what we might change in our respective curriculums, modifying and broadening our programs to encompass those courses which are in need of additional training or expansion, or even eliminating those courses which provide the least impact to the actual working professionals, in terms of the overall duties and responsibilities needed. It was suggested that such a topic could be the theme and agenda for the next Advisory Board Gala presentation. The evening was a great success and we look forward to our next Advisory Board Gala in November.
