Sonography is a medical tool that uses high-frequency sound waves to develop a visual picture of a patient's body. The sound waves bounce off of different areas inside the body and allow doctors to examine what lies beneath the surface of a patient's body. Doctors can then examine the image produced to make a diagnosis. This procedure is often known as a sonogram or ultrasound.
