Sanford-Brown Institute’s New York campus celebrated their 32nd graduation ceremony

Campus President Daniel Lenzo welcomed the students and their guests by celebrating that over one third of the 1,087 students eligible for graduation achieved honors and that there were 135 students who recorded a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Manhattan Borough President, Scott M. Stringer, was the keynote speaker and congratulated the students on their success and pointed out that they are now on the front-lines of a battle to improve the health of every New Yorker. Mr. Stringer spoke of his efforts to combat asthma in New York’s poorest neighborhoods and his attempts to eliminate “food deserts” by increasing the availability of fresh fruit and vegetables, especially through the introduction of farmer’s markets, throughout the city.
Elizabeth Horton, a medical assisting graduate from Brooklyn, NY, was the class’s valedictorian. She now works as a medical assistant at NYU Langone Medical Center. Salutatorians for each program were also recognized.
The campus community also celebrated its outstanding faculty through a series of awards. Dr. Nisa Ali, from the CVT program won the faculty award for teaching, Maria Merida from the MBC program won the award for professional growth, Dr. Bindu Pillai, the assistant dean of faculty, won the award for leadership and Dr. Mohammed Peerzade from the MA program won the award for student success. The junior faculty of the year award was presented to Erik Soto from the MA program and Maria Merida won the faculty of the year. From the staff, Sandy Garcia, a financial aid advisor, won the staff of the year award.
