In January of 2010, SBI – Jacksonville established a "Student Ambassador Committee." It is required that members do at least one community service event per month and for May they selected the Relay for Life event at Mandarin High School. Some of the MA Ambassadors were available to take blood pressures for participants. They wore gold (or yellow) uniforms instead of their designated colors. Five Student Ambassadors are pictured: Russell Porfilio, Kristyna Phipps, Shane Smith, Jamie Smrekar, and Heather Downey. These students represented the elite club and they were led by Mary Hammons (Career Services Advisor and the President of the Student Ambassador Committee) along with Debra Wallace (Director of Career Services), Romina Xhahysa (Financial Aid Director) and Diana Whitfield.
On May 22, approximately 800 – 900 people attended throughout the day. The Relay for Life is an annual event that is sponsored by the Cancer Society to raise awareness.
