The excitement and glamour of Hollywood are coming to Hartford on Oscar Night. Guests can experience the thrills and surprises of the 82nd Academy Awards® on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Hartford’s own Oscar Night America party. The event will be held at 7pm at DISH Bar and Grill. Hartford guests may feel like stars themselves as they arrive in Black-tie or costumed attire and walk the red carpet with interviews with Hartford Courant Mary Ellen Fillo and Channel 8's Matt Scott. In addition, fashion designers from Gibbs College will be judged in "Project Red Carpet." The public is invited to attend and tickets are $55 per person/ $100 per couple. All proceeds from the event will benefit CARC (Connecticut AIDS Resource Coalition).
Project Red Carpet will feature three current Gibbs College fashion design students, Elaine James, Anetra Guiont, and Sarah Morgan, who will compete against two Gibbs alumni, Rondelynn Bell and Naimah Spann for the title "Best Designer." They each received $150 for fabric, an unknown model, and had two weeks to design and sew a red-carpet gown. The gowns will debut on Tuesday, March 2nd during a taping at News Channel 8, Connecticut Style.
"For the past six years I’ve been a committee member to CARC’s Oscar Party. When I started working at Gibbs this January, I saw a beautiful opportunity to showcase local business women trying to make it as fashion designers and also a chance to bring some extra glamour and funds to a Connecticut charity," said Tracy Julian, Externship Site Director at Gibbs College. "I’m very excited and proud to be a part of this. It’s truly amazing to have an idea and see it embraced and flourish so quickly."
Guests will dine on delectable food prepared by Billy Carbone as they view the Annual Academy Awards® live telecast and mingle with guests. Additional features include a fabulous silent auction, prizes for best costume, Moet Hennessy champagne, a photo booth, a fashion show and surprise "celebrity" guests. Co-founders Colin McEnroe and Peter Shapiro organized the first CARC Oscar Night 18 years ago. Hartford's Oscar Night has grown every year and was officially sanctioned by Oscar Night America® in 2006.
