Sanford Brown Pittsburgh Veterinary Technology StudentsVeterinary Technology students learn nursing skills for a variety of animal species, including bovine, equine, porcine, caprine, ovine, and poultry. Recently, the students visited various large animal clinical sites as part of the Veterinary Nursing Procedures III/Internship class. Affiliate sites include: Windy Springs Farm, WVU Agricultural Farm, and Fox Run Equine Center. The course covers an array of topics from physical exams and vaccinations to surgical procedures for large animal species. Also included in their large animal equine skills is the proper way to apply bandaging. Bandaging a horse's leg provides support and protection; improper bandaging techniques can lead to tendon and ligament damage.
