When the students of the CS102 class section D8 scheduled for Service Learning at God’s Kitchen on January 19, 2012 they left with more than just an hour’s experience of helping at the pantry; they left with a mission. They wanted to do more. The service mission and a greater effort, was to host a campus drive. The class presented their project proposal to their instructor Jacqueline Scherer. Instructor Scherer reached out for project approval and campus support. With confirmation to proceed the class set out on a mission. Project Objective: To take in as much clothing and food as possible with the last 8 days of the mod.
Within the 8 day timeframe the class was able to meet their goal. By February 9, the results were a classroom full of donations; actually their own classroom full of non-perishable food items and clothing for deserving families. Donations mainly from the campus community were gathered and sorted. Students with transportation arranged to drop off the goods to God’s Kitchen.
The students of CS102, section D8 had a purpose. They identified a problem; wanted to help and make a difference. Following their plan of action enabled them to be successful and their mission accomplished.
Welcome to your future. Welcome to Sanford-Brown.
