Sanford-Brown Institute – Tampa observes “World AIDS Day 2013”

Sanford Brown Institute – Tampa observes World AIDS Day 2013On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, students and staff of the Tampa campus observed World AIDS Day.

The theme for World AIDS Day was “Getting to Zero,” highlighting the fact that every 9 ½ minutes someone is diagnosed with HIV, and awareness of the importance of HIV testing and condom use can ultimately bring that number to zero

The event was kicked off by Andrew Maldonado, Regional Minority AIDS Coordinator for the State of Florida, and then special guest speaker, Tracey Dannemiller of “Straight from the Heart of Florida,” a non-profit organization committed to promoting awareness and providing community education for HIV and AIDS shared a personal story of her family’s journey through HIV and AIDS.

In addition, members from DACCO (Drug Abuse Comprehensive Community Organization), one of Florida’s largest community-based providers of behavioral health services, volunteered to conduct free HIV screenings for students.
