Congratulations to the first graduating class at Sanford-Brown College at San Antonio!

The event was held at the Carver Community Culture Center, a historical center of African American culture, located just east of downtown San Antonio.

Approximately 60 Medical Assisting and Medical Billing and Coding students crossed the stage, receiving certificates for their respective programs. The graduation was well-attended by friends and family, leaving few empty seats in the auditorium.

Dr. Gary Deegear, a licensed Private Investigator and Crime Scene Investigator in the State of Texas, spoke to the graduates and attendees about his experience, skills, and the importance of an education.

The recipients of the Exceptional Graduate Award were nominated by their program Chairs, and elected through popular vote by the faculty. To be eligible, the student must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, and be a role model for fellow classmates. Jamie Newton was the recipient of the award for the Medical Assisting program. Coincidentally, during her ad-mission process, Jamie stated to her Representative that she would be speaking at her graduation. And she did.

The award for Exceptional Graduate of the Medical Billing and Coding program was received by Katherine Adams. Katherine also had the distinction of winning a second award, which was for Perfect Attendance. She had neither been tardy, nor absent, from any of her classes over the duration of her program.

A special treat for attendees was the singing of the National Anthem by SBC’s own Ivy Macias. Ivy’s a cappella solo was breath-taking!
