SBC - San Antonio with Habitat for Humanity Event

May 27, 2011

Sanford-Brown College-San Antonio with Habitat for Humanity

Staff and students from Sanford-Brown San Antonio will assist with Habitat for Humanity for its third time, working as a construction crew on the latest homes being built in our community.

When:
Friday, May 27, 2011

Construction crews are the heart of Habitat for Humanity. No previous experience is necessary to volunteer!

For more information, please contact Steven Parker, Director of Community & Alumni Outreach, at 210-246-7735 or sparker@sbsanantonio.com

Each house will have a leader to instruct volunteers and all the tools and safety equipment our volunteers will need. Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio (HFHSA) works with low-income families who would not otherwise be able to afford a house. They partner with families in need and help them build affordable houses for themselves and their families at no interest and no profit.

They are not a charity or a “hand out” program, but rather they help families help themselves. HFHSA works with very low-income families whose total income is generally 25% - 60% of the area median income. Families are accepted to the Habitat program based on their need, ability to pay a 0% interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner. Applicants must be residents of Bexar County. Families spend a minimum of 300 hours investing in "sweat equity" where they support and help build their own house and that of their neighbors. Monthly mortgage payments average $375 to $425.
