SBC-San Antonio Gives Back on Give Back Day
October 20, 2010
When:
Wednesday, October 20th - Give Back Day
Time:
8:00AM - 4:00PM
To observe Giving Back to the Community Day, a day being celebrated by all CEC health schools, Sanford-Brown College will be hosting a blood and tissue drive on Wednesday October 20th between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. The drive will be held inside Sanford-Brown, and be conducted by faculty and students.
The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center has made an impact on the community as a whole over the years and the constant need for donors. The campus will also be donating the use of its labs for the actual donation processes.

Also on that day, SBC will be support-ing Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which is a foundation for childhood cancer. Alexandra “Alex” Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma prior to her first birthday. During her short life, Alex proved to be a determined and inspir-ing child. After her fourth birthday, and a stemcell transplant, Alex held her first lemonade stand and raised $2000 to help other children.
While battling her own cancer, she continued to hold annual lemonade stands in her front yard to benefit childhood cancer research. This inspired people from all over the world to hold their own lemonade stands, and donate the proceeds to Alex and her cause. Alex passed away at the age of 8, knowing that she, and those she had moti-vated, had raised over $1 million to find a cure. Alex’s family and supporters from around the world continue her legacy through Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
During the drive, and in addition to lemonade, there will also be baked goods available for purchase!
