Sanford-Brown Tampa Teams Up With Bauer Dentistry For "Free Dental Day"
March 3, 2010
WHAT: As furloughs and layoffs continue across Tampa Bay, access to health coverage with dental benefits is becoming increasingly difficult for many families. Many people go without proper dental care because they simply can’t afford cleanings, fillings and other treatments. This Friday, the students and instructors from Sanford-Brown Institute - Tampa will team with dentists from Bauer Dentistry for "Free Dental Day."
Sanford-Brown joined the program at the suggestion of Dental Assistant graduate Jennifer Baggs, who now works in Tampa. Sanford-Brown Tampa President Steeve Dumerve jumped at the opportunity to help give back to the Tampa Bay community.
"Free Dental Day" is part of Dentistry From The Heart (DFTH), a national non-profit organization with a simple mission – making people smile. Founded in 2001 by a dentist in New Port Richey, Florida, DFTH was created to aid those in need, including the growing population of under-insured Americans. Sanford-Brown students will assist Bauer Dentistry dentists with fillings, extractions and cleanings. Students will also handle patient triage, sterilizations and other treatments. Patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. It is advised that consumers come with the registration form completed in advance. Drs. Bauer and Burns and their volunteers will treat the first 80 patients, or however many they can service by 4:00pm.
