SBI Landover’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program Receives Programmatic Accreditation
December 7, 2010
Landover, MD (December 7, 2010) - Sanford-Brown Institute (SBI) - Landover announced that its Diagnostic Medical Sonography program has received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
With this accreditation, program graduates will be eligible under American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Prerequisite 2 to immediately take the voluntary Abdomen, Obstetrics and Gynecology Examination offered by the ARDMS.
“Sanford-Brown is dedicated to providing quality education,” said Raminder Singh, Diagnostic Medical Sonography program director. “Receiving this accreditation demonstrates our desire to help students succeed.”
CAAHEP, the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field, works with its Committees on Accreditation to accredit programs in 20 different allied health occupations. In order to be granted programmatic accreditation, SBI - Landover began the review process back in 2008 and underwent extensive program reviews and a site visit to demonstrate that the diagnostic medical sonography program met all CAAHEP standards.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at SBI - Landover prepares students for the field, which entails a medical diagnostic test that uses ultrasound to produce visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. During the course of the certificate program, students have the opportunity to study anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of scanned organ systems, recognize the sonographic patterns of the organs, learn protocols for a logical and thorough survey of the organs, and provide accurate and technical findings to the interpreting physician.
In addition to access to a scanning lab, classroom and clinical instruction, SBI - Landover provides the Simpro Virtual Trainer™ in its DMS program. Sanford-Brown partnered with New Zealand-based SIMTICS, a leader in virtual simulation technology for healthcare education, and co-developed this product to improve learning outcomes and help students confidently meet the high standards of the healthcare industry. The Simpro Virtual Trainer is intended to enhance and complement existing, proven training methods inside the classroom and at clinical sites. It will provide a convenient and effective way for students to gain experience with key clinical procedures at any time. SBI – Landover also includes comprehensive test-preparation programs such as Pegasus Lectures to help students study for credentialing examinations.
