Sanford-Brown to Recognize Healthcare Graduates

Garden City, N.Y. (March 18, 2010) – More than 250 guests are expected to gather at Adelphi University on Friday, March 19 as Sanford-Brown Institute – Garden City recognizes its latest group of healthcare graduates. The 50-60 students participating in Friday’s ceremony have completed the Certificate Program in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound.

The ceremony will take place at the Performing Arts Center at Adelphi University in Garden City. The guest speaker will be James W. Baker, Director of Radiology/Cardiology at Plainview & Syosset Hospital. Tony Emerson, Director of Career Services, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

"Our commencement ceremony is something we all look forward to every year," said James J. Swift, President of Sanford-Brown Institute – Garden City. "When many of our students start school, they are nervous and apprehensive about their future. By the time they graduate, they are transformed into confident healthcare professionals eager to start their career in hospitals and medical facilities throughout our community."

Students who have completed the Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program are part of a vital healthcare team. They are responsible for detecting heart disease and other heart conditions by knowing how to properly check the heart for subtle differences between healthy and diseased areas; judge if the images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes; and send images to the doctor to view.

Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound is a medical procedure that uses ultrasound to produce visual images of organs, tissues or blood flow inside the body. Graduates of this program are skilled professionals who use specialized equipment to create sonograms or ultrasound scans of structures inside the human body that are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis.
