Name change signals Dearborn campus’ transition to conferring associate degrees
DEARBORN, MI (September 14, 2010) – The Dearborn campus of Sanford-Brown officially became Sanford-Brown College (SBC) this week, reflecting the State of Michigan’s recent decision to give the campus authority to confer associate degrees in addition to the current diplomas offered. This will open the door to the addition of more degree-granting programs available at the college. In October, SBC – Dearborn will launch two new associate degree programs: Cardiovascular Sonography and Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The programs run 70 and 80 weeks, respectively, which is short-term in comparison to the sonography programs offered at other institutions.
"We are excited about the name change for our school as it reflects a continued commitment to providing our students with the foundation to pursue a rewarding career in their chosen field," said Sanford-Brown College – Dearborn President Roger Hosn. "The shift to offering associate degree programs in addition to diploma programs makes our students more competitive in seeking employment upon graduation."
Sanford-Brown is also introducing the Simpro Virtual Trainer™ in Dearborn and at its campuses nationwide that offer imaging programs in cardiovascular sonography and diagnostic medical sonography. Sanford-Brown partnered with New Zealand-based SIMTICS, a leader in virtual simulation technology for healthcare education, and co-developed this product to improve learning outcomes and help students confidently meet the high standards of the healthcare industry.
"We intend for the Simpro Virtual Trainer to enhance and complement existing, proven training methods inside the classroom and at clinical sites in our cardiovascular sonography and diagnostic medical sonography programs," said Hosn.
The Simpro Virtual Trainer breaks down each clinical procedure into its component steps, requiring students to make decisions about what to do next, which instrument to use and where to apply it. It will make procedures more accessible, helping students gain and retain critical information without being solely dependent on patient cases during their clinical experience. Established in Illinois in 1866, Sanford-Brown has one of the longest tenures of any business education institution in the United States. Today, there are 17 campuses bearing the name Sanford-Brown College (SBC) and there are more than 20 other affiliated campuses operating under the names of Sanford-Brown Institute (SBI) and SBI Campus-an affiliate of Sanford-Brown, with more than 28,000 students currently enrolled.
