Alexian Brothers Hospital Network and Sanford-Brown Schools Announce New Alliance

January 26, 2011

Pledge to programs that serve those patients most in need

Arlington Heights, IL (January 26, 2011) – A 7-year alliance has been established between the Alexian Brothers Hospital Network (ABHN) and Sanford-Brown Colleges aimed at serving the needs of ABHN patients and the colleges’ students at multiple locations.  ABHN is comprised of four hospitals which serve the two million residents of Chicago's growing northwest suburbs.  Three Sanford-Brown Colleges were opened in the Chicago area in 2010 (in Hillside, Skokie and Tinley Park), with four additional campuses in existence in the St. Louis area.  Sanford-Brown has made a pledge to the Alexian Brothers Foundation that is restricted for program use to both the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health and the Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital Developmental Pediatric Clinic.

“The Alexian Brothers Hospital Network is very pleased to join in this exciting new partnership with Sanford-Brown,” states Tracy Rogers, Alexian Brothers Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.  “It was clear since our early discussions that we share an important goal of preparing students for careers in the healthcare field. We look forward to playing an active role in the Sanford- Brown curriculum.”

Sanford-Brown has secured externships at ABHN locations for its students, who are studying in areas such as Cardiovascular Sonography, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Surgical Technology and Medical Assistant.  In addition, ABHN will collaborate with Sanford-Brown to develop Service Learning opportunities.  In late 2010, Sanford-Brown announced that it will be introducing a Service Learning component to curricula at each of 38 campuses in the U.S. This enhancement to curricula is intended to provide an opportunity to engage students in the educational process by requiring them to apply their classroom learning to help address real-life problems.

“Sanford-Brown schools are new to Chicago and we are committed to associating them with quality partners to establish our presence here,” said George Grayeb, senior vice president of the Health Education Strategic Business Unit of Career Education Corporation, parent company of Sanford-Brown schools. “We believe working with a healthcare provider like Alexian Brothers Hospital Network demonstrates our dedication to providing our students with high-quality educational opportunities.”

In the course of this relationship, the Colleges will work to establish an approved scholarship program for ABHN employees who are interested in pursuing continuing education opportunities at local Sanford-Brown Colleges.
