April 19, 2010
SAN ANTONIO, TX. (April 19, 2010) – The Sanford-Brown College (SBC) San Antonio campus has launched a specialized associate degree program in diagnostic medical sonography. The program, which trains students to use specialized equipment to create sonograms and/or ultrasound scans of structures inside the human body that are used by physicians to make a medical diagnosis, will be offered during day and night sessions and can be completed in as little as 70 weeks.
Currently, the San Antonio campus also offers medical assistant and medical billing and coding certificate programs as well as a specialized associate degree program in cardiovascular sonography.
"We opened the San Antonio campus in May 2009," said Deborah King, president of the campus. "As we prepare for our first graduating class this summer, we look forward to continuing to provide relevant programs while adding new opportunities for our students, as we have with our diagnostic medical sonography degree."
Sanford-Brown is also introducing the Simpro Virtual Trainer™ on campuses nationwide to campuses, including San Antonio’s, that offer imaging programs in cardiovascular sonography and diagnostic medical sonography. Sanford-Brown partnered with New Zealand-based SIMTICS, a leader in virtual simulation technology for healthcare education, and co-developed this product to improve learning outcomes and help students confidently meet the high standards of the healthcare industry.
The Simpro Virtual Trainer is intended to enhance and complement existing, proven training methods inside the classroom and at clinical sites. It will provide a convenient and effective way for students to gain experience with key clinical procedures at any time. An online video is available at: www.sanfordbrown.edu
The Simpro Virtual Trainer breaks down each clinical procedure into its component steps, requiring students to make decisions about what to do next, which instrument to use and where to apply it. It will make procedures more accessible, helping students gain and retain critical information without being solely dependent on patient cases during their clinical experience.
