Program Becomes One of Only Two AVMA-Accredited Programs in the State of Oregon
Portland, OR. August 3, 2012 – Sanford-Brown College-Portland has announced that its Veterinary Technology academic program has received accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The program is now one of two AVMA-accredited programs in the state.
By achieving this accreditation, Sanford-Brown graduates are now eligible to apply to the Oregon Medical Veterinary Board for registration to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE), a requirement to become a certified veterinary technician in the state of Oregon..
“Our academic standards provide students with the opportunity to learn the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence they need to pursue careers as veterinary technicians,” said Andrea M. Dover, DVM, Chair of the Veterinary Technology Program at the SBC-Portland campus. “The AVMA accreditation distinction is a crucial step in providing students the tools they need to succeed after graduation.”
The Veterinary Technology program at Sanford-Brown is designed to provide students with the technical and practical training necessary to work as veterinary technicians who provide competent and humane care toward the emotional and physical well-being of animals.
The American Veterinary Medical Association, established in 1863, is the largest not-for-profit veterinary association in the world. The AVMA represents more than 82,500 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services. The Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) develops standards and reviews programs in veterinary technology and is the Committee charged with overseeing accreditation of veterinary technology programs.
