First campus in Western United States
PHOENIX, ARIZ. (October 27, 2009) – Sanford-Brown College, which provides education in allied health care and related fields designed to prepare its graduates for related employment opportunities, is pleased to announce the opening of its first campus in the Western United States. The first class started October 19.
Current career-focused training programs being offered at the Phoenix campus include medical assistant and pharmacy technician. Each program is offered during day and evening sessions and can be completed in as little as 40-55 weeks, depending on if the student is taking day or night classes. New classes begin every five weeks.
In early 2010, specialized associate degree programs in both cardiovascular sonography and diagnostic medical sonography will be offered. These two programs would also be offered during day and night sessions and could be completed in as little as 70 weeks. SBC expects that new enrollment in these programs would only be available twice a year.
George F. Fitzpatrick will be the first president of the Phoenix campus. Fitzpatrick has more than 20 years experience in the education industry, most recently as the vice president of student services and interim president of Collins College in Tempe. He has been with Career Education Corporation, Sanford-Brown's parent company, since 2004.
"With Sanford-Brown, I have the chance to help develop a culture of open communication, teamwork and success. And with this campus being the first in the Western United States, I get to be a part of something completely new to the marketplace," said Fitzpatrick.
Founded in 1866 when Rufus C. Crampton, a professor at Illinois College, established a school to meet the growing educational demands of post-Civil War America, there are now 10 campuses bearing the name Sanford-Brown College and 16 other affiliated campuses operating under the names of Sanford-Brown Institute and Missouri College, serving more than 19,000 students nationwide.
"Phoenix is an excellent growth market for our College," said Tom O'Donnell, vice president of the Start-Up Division at Career Education Corporation. "With a growing population and the demand for health care jobs being strong both here, as well as nationally, we decided to expand our network of schools."
