History and Mission

With over 170,000 alumni, Sanford-Brown has been providing career-focused education for over 145 years. We began back in 1866, when Rufus C. Crampton, a professor at Illinois College, established a school to meet the growing educational demands of post-Civil War America.

Today, there are 18 private colleges and schools bearing the name Sanford-Brown across the United States. While their specific programs may differ, their mission is the same:

To provide career-focused post-secondary educational opportunities to a diverse student population. Through outcome-oriented programs, convenient and supportive student services that accommodate students’ lives, and career assistance, Sanford-Brown is committed to helping our students and graduates achieve their educational and professional goals.

While the specific needs of students and employers have changed over the years, one core belief has remained constant: Whether you’re studying healthcare, design, technology or business, you will perform better, and are more likely to succeed, in a supportive environment, where you are known and everyone is rooting for your success.
